Big news just dropped in the BOI reporting saga, and it’s exactly what we’ve been predicting for months.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has granted a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act’s (CTA) Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements. With just four weeks to go before the original deadline, small business owners nationwide are getting a much-needed reprieve.

We Called This Months Ago
If you’ve been following The Profit Pilot, you’ll know we’ve been outspoken about the flaws in the BOI rollout. From the beginning, we’ve said that this mandate was overly burdensome, duplicative, and inefficient. Here’s a quick recap of our take:

1. Enforcement Should Be at the State Level:
   Business registration already happens at the state level, so BOI reporting should be seamlessly integrated into that process.

2. Poor Awareness Campaign:
   With steep penalties for noncompliance, we argued that there wasn’t enough effort to educate small business owners about the rules.

3. Privacy Concerns:
   Forcing small businesses to disclose private ownership information was both invasive and unnecessary.
